BWANA is het indie-pop en shoegaze muziekproject van Friedel Dufait. Ze overtuigt meteen met haar melancholische gitaarlijnen en haar diepe, krachtige zangstem, waarin harmonieuze meerstemmigheid een sterke rol speelt. Vroeger als 'one-woman band', waarbij ze zelf alle instrumenten bespeelt, als met haar liveband, brengt ze haar unieke sound tot leven en drukt ze de Bwanaanse stijl onmiskenbaar in je gezicht. Haar teksten zijn origineel en oprecht, met een universele herkenbaarheid die raakt.
Met invloeden van Slowdive, girl in red en PJ Harvey wist ze zich te onderscheiden tijdens Humo’s Rock Rally 2022 en als finaliste van Sound Track 2021-2022. Haar krachtige live-performances trokken de aandacht van Pukkelpop-programmeur Eppo Janssen, die haar tipte als een naam om in de gaten te houden. In 2024 werd haar talent bekroond met de titel van winnaar van De Nieuwe Lichting van Studio Brussel, waarmee ze definitief haar plaats in de spotlights opeist.
BWANA brengt een meeslepende mix van indie-pop en shoegaze, met een sound die zowel introspectief als onontkoombaar is. Of ze nu solo tokkelt of met haar band, ze laat een onuitwisbare indruk achter.
In 2025 staat er veel nieuwe muziek klaar. Met frisse inspiratie en studio-opnames op komst
belooft dit een jaar te worden waarin BWANA haar unieke geluid verder uitdiept en versterkt.
