Biography

EN:

TJE consists of Lindy Versyck (vocals), Melvin Slabbinck (guitar, drums) and Klaas Leyssen (bass). Together, they merge their musical backgrounds and influences into a unique sound that is as infectious as it is undefinable. Balancing intensity and vulnerability, TJE’s music is both raw and layered, constantly exploring the tension between melody and experimentation. Hovering between electronics, melancholic avant-pop and experimental post-rock, their music puts atmosphere and emotion front and centre. A melting pot that somehow just clicks, resulting in an intense, hypnotic and memorable live experience. Just ask Pukkelpop, Best Kept Secret, Lokerse Feesten, Reeperbahn, Fifty Lab and Focus Wales, where they have consistently delivered impressive performances.

With a minimum of instruments, TJE achieves maximum impact, pushing the boundaries of each instrument in search of dissonance and musical friction. They fully succeed in doing so on their debut album, SCHADE, created in collaboration with co-writer and producer Pieter-Jan Decraene. The hypnotic bass, pulsating electronics and Versyck’s enchanting voice, somewhere between a dreamy yet menacing Björk and FKA twigs, have struck a chord with audiences and radio alike. Several singles have been picked up by Radio 1, StuBru and influential independent radio stations in France and the Netherlands.

NL:

Press

EN:

“Versyck’s voice cuts through the venue both with and without effects, while the two seated guitarists beside her build a hypnotic, at times downright virtuosic, wall of sound. The songs from their yet-to-be-released debut album already sound promising, but ‘Echoes’ (with crystal-clear vocals) and the closing track ‘Days Exist’ - by far the highlight of the evening - featuring an impressive climax, also leave a deep impression. We’ll be hearing much more from TJE, and we’re glad we got to hear them already.” - 3voor12 (NL)

“With TJE, Versyck sometimes reminded us of Björk with how she navigated her voice between childlike naivety and menace.” - De Standaard

“Vocalist Lindy Versyck is alternately sweet and menacing over a bed of uneasy electronica and menacing synths. What exactly are these songs about? Who can say. What I do know is that if the world is ending tomorrow, I want this album soundtracking my last moments as the world goes up in flames. Take a listen and you will, too.” - Turn & Work

“The end result sounds like no other band in the Western Hemisphere. That alone makes the bandname completely falsely modest. Better get used to it, because TJE is here to stay for a long time.” - OOR

NL:

- Turn & Work

- OOR
