Fred Gata is een Rwandese-Belgische artiest met een stem die ergens tussen warme thee en een rokerige zondagavond zweeft. Hij beweegt zich op het kruispunt van hiphop en soul. Wie hem ooit live heeft gezien, weet dat dat ‘bewegen’ geen eufemisme is. Fred Gata leeft zijn muziek. Niet met choreografieën of lichtshows, maar met oprechte energie, charisma dat geen mediatraining nodig heeft, en teksten die een rake linkse geven aan wie even niet oplet.

 

Vandaag werkt hij met enkele zeer getalenteerde producers en muzikanten , waaronder Joachim Saerens, Poldoore, Matoka, Aloïs Maddens en Lars Overstijns aan zijn debuutalbum dat in het voorjaar van 2027 zal uitkomen. Fred Gata belooft met zijn debuut een veelzijdige nieuwe verderzetting waarin soul, hiphop, beats, een beetje chaos en veel liefde tot in de fijnste details tonen tot welke stijl Fred behoort, namelijk, zijn eigen unieke stijl. Het wordt een universum waarin ruimte is voor tranen, dansen en een kleine revolutie tegelijk.

 

In 2025 werd zijn eerste EP Wind Me Down gereleaset. Sindsdien deelde hij het podium als support voor namen als Kae Tempest, Dermot Kennedy, Martha Da’ro, Hak Baker en Antony Szmierek: artiesten die elk op hun eigen manier ook net iets meer doen dan een catchy refrein brengen. Je kon hem ook bewonderen op podia van Gent Jazz, AFAS Live, EMERGE!, Suikerrock, AB of Boomtown!

Fred is a Rwandan-Belgian artist with a voice that floats somewhere between warm tea and a smoky Sunday evening. He moves at the crossroads of hip-hop and soul, though anyone who has ever seen him live knows that “moves” is no euphemism. The man lives his music. Not with choreographies or light shows, but with raw energy, charisma that needs no media training, and lyrics that land like a sharp left hook when you’re not paying

attention.

In 2023, the wider public finally took notice when he casually won both the jury and audience awards at Sound Track. Double bingo. Since then, he has shared stages with artists like Martha Da’ro, Hak Baker, and Antony Szmierek, artists who, each in their own way, also offer more than just a catchy hook.

Beyond his own performances, Fred Gata uses his platform to uplift others, especially young talent. Preferably unsure and unpolished. At events such as Grab The Mic at De Zomerfabriek, Bizanders at De Pianofabriek, or RAUW at Het Depot, you’ll see him cheering just as hard for a trembling sixteen-year-old as for a seasoned spoken word veteran. Fred creates spaces where you’re allowed to stumble. And where that’s completely okay.
